Legacy Planning- a kingdom focus
Legacy Planning: Building Eternal Impact Through Biblical Stewardship
A legacy isn't just what you leave behind—it's what you send ahead. As Christians, our approach to legacy planning should reflect eternal values rather than merely temporal concerns. I never gave it much thought before this week, but my goal now is to change my Last Will and Testament to include kingdom priorities. So since I've been thinking about it, here's some thoughts on how to develop a biblical framework for legacy planning that impacts generations.
1. Biblical Foundation for Legacy Planning
God Owns Everything (this weekends message made this clear!)
Spiritual Legacy
a. Assessment Phase
Biblical legacy planning isn't about preserving wealth—it's about propagating Kingdom impact. By intentionally structuring our resources for eternal purposes, we can influence generations for Christ long after we're gone.
Remember: "Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal" (Matthew 6:20).
Oh, get inspired by reading David Green, of Hobby Lobby's story. Fascinating or look into LeTourneau corporation or Barnhart Crane and Rigging. Fascinating stories of reverse tithing (giving 90% and still having the socks blessed off of them). Inspiring. I promise you, each of these links is worth 1000x more than watching another cat video on Instagram.

1. Biblical Foundation for Legacy Planning
God Owns Everything (this weekends message made this clear!)
- "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it" (Psalm 24:1)
- We are stewards, not owners
- Every resource is a divine trust
- "A good person leaves an inheritance for their children's children" (Proverbs 13:22)
- Legacy extends beyond financial assets
- Spiritual inheritance matters most
Spiritual Legacy
- Documentation of faith journey
- Letters of blessing and wisdom
- Recording of life lessons and God's faithfulness
- Debt-free living
- Wise investment strategies
- Kingdom-focused giving plans
- Support for missions and ministries
- Charitable foundations
- Church planting initiatives
a. Assessment Phase
- Review all assets and resources and evaluate family needs
- Consider kingdom priorities
- Pray for wisdom and guidance
- Document your values and vision
- Meet with financial/spiritual advisors (I recommend Joel Martin at Mangrove Financial since that is his end goal. www.mangrovefinancialgroup.com
- Create initial legacy plan with a lawyer.
- Communicate with family to avoid division later.
Spiritual | What values do I want to transmit? | Write legacy letter |
Financial | How can assets serve Kingdom? | Create giving strategy |
Relational | How do I prepare next generation? | Schedule family meeting |
Practical | What structures needed? | Meet with advisors |
